Phil Henry (6’8″ / 203 cm, PF C, Marlton, NJ) has been selected as the #2 Overall Draft pick in the Cibacopa Draft held in March. Immediately thereafter, Henry agreed to a deal with Ostioneros de Guaymas (Mexico).
In February, Henry impressed at the 2015 iBall FOCUS camp in New Brunswick, New Jersey, earning top interior player accolades and an All-Star Team selection. He was courted by scouts for the Mexico Cibacopa tryout, a collaboration between Jon Solomon of SMAA and Armando “Vala” Valadez at Vala Sports Management.
Henry showed as a strong interior player who plays very well with his back to the basketball. He can back down defenders and finish with a right jump hook. He can also face-up and blow by with a swing-through move and 1-dribble attack to finish strong at the basket, and sometimes with force and well above the rim. He also counters with a jab-step to knock down the 8-10 ft jumper. Phil also has 3-point shooting ability and an active motor to collect both offensive and defensive rebounds. He is a superior shot-blocker as well.
Prior to joining Ostioneros, Henry starred for the Bronx Holy Flames of the ABA. Henry averaged 19.3pts, 8.0reb, and 2.4bpg. In his senior season at Eastern New Mexico State University, Henry averaged 6.8pts, 4.8reb and 1.6 blocks respectively.
