Overseas Tryouts Send US Selection Team To Mexico

Overseas_Tryouts_logo_2014_01_01The US All-Star Selection Team travels to Mexico today for an opportunity to impress CIBACOPA teams in order to land pro contracts for the 2014 Season.

Those selected for the team were deemed the cream of the crop, and Coaches Mike Richmond and Jon Solomon are very excited about the opportunity to find many of them contracts for playing this season.  “This will be the best and most successful tour ever!” said Solomon just after landing in Phoenix yesterday afternoon in preparation for today’s trip to Mexico.

Two players stood out above the rest. And by claiming MVPs, both Brandon Nichols (Tryout MVP) and Hamidu Rahman (Resume MVP) have had all travel expenses paid by tour administration. Rahman also received the special benefit of the custom configuration of Rahman’s Professional Basketball Resume by the Resume Services team at iBall United.  It is now listed online and readily available for international scouting.

The selection process was very tedious as the coaches and scouts had to choose from 40 of the top free agents that had high level and extensive basketball experience in college and the professional ranks both here and overseas.  The pool consisted of 2 groups of players–players who attended live tryouts and players who submitted their resume.   The first opportunity was iBall Focus Camp, held November of 2013.  The next was the The 2014 Overseas Tryout, which was held in February at the Delaware Orthropedic Sportsplex.

Lastly, players submitted their basketball resumes having them evaluated and critiqued by tour administration.  Resume finalists also had the benefit of being evaluated by way of an iBall Profile Review.

The iBall Profile Review is a service provided by iBall United to assist organizations in player evaluations by way of resume, video, reference and other critique. Reviews are furnished at a very high level done by professional coaches or scouts overseas that have extensive video scouting experience.  It significantly increases the chance of a player to get signed up as it provides GM’s and Coaches a more comprehensive look.

Marshall Bonds, one of the All-Stars is a perfect example. Bonds, was not able to attend the try-outs but entered for the opportunity by way of resume submission.  An impressive Review by Coach Rado Leko (Slovenia) gave the selection committee an approval that was too good to pass up on.

The SMAA US All-Stars Tour will be from March 18 to 26 and will play in 4 different cities.

NOTEWORTHY: Making the team is Shimeek Johnson, the 2014 iBall Focus MVP.  Johnson was recently signed by the Indiana Diesel (PBL) , and after just a few successful outings, tour administration were swayed to offer him the opportunity.
