On February 2nd, 2014, they will be having tryouts from noon to 5:00pm at the
Delaware Orthopaedic Sportsplex, located at 326 Ruthar Drive, Newark, DE 19713. “We are looking for players that have the ability to play at the next level. The Mexico Exposure Tour gives the player an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of team owners and coaches that are looking to sign Americans before their league’s season opener in March,” stated SMAA’s owner Jon Solomon.
This isn’t anything new for Jon Solomon because this will be his 3rd Tour to Mexico where he has signed players to the Cibacopa League. Solomon, CEO of Self Motivated Athletic Agency (SMAA), was recently anointed the first ever Agent/Head Basketball Coach of the Premier Basketball League (PBL) when he was signed by the Lake Michigan Admirals. In the past 2 years, Solomon has organized and coached international tour teams to China (3), Mexico (2), Spain, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Ireland, and Las Vegas over the last two years and has signed numerous players along the way. With the help of former professional basketball player and entrepreneur Howard Brown, they will for sure pick the best players for the tour. Mr. Brown recently retired after 13 years of playing professional basketball in the U.S., Spain, Italy, Portugal, Venezuela, and Israel. He is the Director of Marketing, I.T., and Technical Player Analysis for the venture. From the time the winning shot went up by Brown in the 2nd overtime giving Villanova the victory over Pittsburgh at Madison Square Garden in the ’98 Big East Tournament to now, owning his own player and agency marketing and consulting company for basketball professionals worldwide called International Ballplayers United, Inc., better known as iBall United. Brown now seeks opportunities for other players to take that winning shot all over the globe. iBall United is a proven service provider for players who are seeking contracts internationally. With staff in cities across North America, Europe, and Parts of Asia, iBall United leverages knowledge and expertise of international basketball, internet, technology, social media, and other web-based marketing resources to serve basketball players and organizations worldwide.
Chris Glisson, owner of a PBL team called the Lake Michigan Admirals, brings a business background of 20 years and six of those years owning his own professional basketball club. His main involvement will be to assist in planning and organizing future tours, including the Mexico Exposure Tour. His title is Head Scout and Director of Business Relations for the collaborative.
One player who registers for the tryout and one player, who submits their resume, will both have all expenses paid for the international opportunity. All other players will have the minimal expenses, including a round trip travel to Phoenix, AZ, food, and accommodations. Travel throughout Mexico, will be paid for by Mexico Basketball.
Solomon and SMAA have elected Mike Richmond as Head Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development. Richmond, the Co-Founder and Director of International Basketball Relations for “I Am Focused“, was selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1987 NBA draft. Richmond played professional basketball for over 13 years for clubs in Spain, Greece, France and Portugal to name a few. Richmond ended his playing career as a star on the Portuguese national team, and since retiring in 2001, has coached, represented, trained, and mentored many
